Talking to the Nation

The initiative taken by Mr. Narendra Modi to address the children of the nation on the event of Teacher’s Day is highly commendable. Rarely do we see a prime minister who takes time from his busy schedule and talks to the children of the country about simple things such as turning the lights off when not in use or taking care of their own belongs, and how they too in their tender age can make a difference to the society.

The modern day politicians are not known to be inspiration figures. After 67 years of independence we still seek inspiration from the leaders of the bygone era. This is because there has been a very few leaders who really tried to communicate with the people directly. The use of social media among politicians is thriving but the need of today is the ability of the politicians to communicate old school. It will not only help creating an attachment between the politician and the general masses but will also keep him involved with his people and his constituency.

The Teacher Day event however, received some criticism from other political parties, parents, teachers and even students. For some it was a waste of time, for others it was just like a compulsory school activity one is bound to do even if he doesn't want to. Whatever it maybe, Narendra Modi tried to do something constructive, something which had not happened before and no matter how effective the outcome is, in a democratic nation, the representative of the people speaking in a public forum, trying to motivate the youth without provoking religious or political sentiments is actually a good habit and should be encouraged. Moreover, when we ostentatiously practice the liberty to criticize the government, then we also should be responsible enough to listen what it has to say.
