The Big and Small of our Existence

I always wonder why, the solar system is so similar to an atom. With nucleus in the middle as the sun, and the protons, electrons and neutrons revolving around it like planets, I often think that is it really an atom or a solar system of some kind and do we live on a proton type of a particle of a gigantic atom of an extremely large object?  We maybe are minuscule beings living inside an atom of an enormous object which can be as simple as a chair or a book belonging to a civilization whose beings are infinitely large. Maybe it is like Russian Dolls, where inside every doll there is a smaller doll and so on. The atoms of the objects that surrounds us may also home infinite such universes where there are infinite such solar systems or atoms which may home millions of civilizations, and then those civilizations also may contain objects holding even smaller universes and solar systems and civilizations.

We may be the part of a never ending chain of existence where the superior existence is slower than the one following it. Take the example of a bird, it’s time span is a lot shorter than that of a dog, or a man, or an elephant. A mayfly's life span is one day. It maybe just 24 hours for us, but for the mayfly it is equivalent to 80-90 years. It is not comparable, the way humans measure time is not a standard. For all, definition of time is different. We must remember that time may be a natural phenomenon but its measurement is manmade. Throughout human civilization we have measured time according to our understanding, and most importantly, according to our biological structure. Imagine a civilization where people are the size of micro particles, almost tens of thousands of times smaller than us. What will the concept of time be for them? Will it be exactly like ours? No. Obviously, they will measure time according to their biological structure. The time it takes a human to blink is maybe an eternity for some other beings. Similarly, think about a civilization superior to us, where beings are millions of times bigger than what we are. Where we are smaller than any measurable unit present and our solar system is not any bigger than an atom. Time for them will be a lot slower than that of us. What may constitute as a moment for them, maybe an eternity for us. I wonder, if there were any other animal on earth intelligent enough to understand and measure time, how different from us their concept of time would be.

We maybe are surrounded by an infinite number of universes which are either too big or too small for us to realize their existence. The concept of time, space and reality maybe completely different than what we think it is. Even in our universe, we have only been able to study and explore a minute part of it, and we have come across so many variations and uncertainties, which have altered our understanding about the universe over the years and are still doing so.

The immenseness of the very creation is too overwhelming for us. Try to ever realize how insignificant we are. In this vastness, your presence doesn’t matter, nothing matters. Our significance may be nothing more than the dust particles surrounding us. It’s only our creativity and curiosity that drives us, it’s our mind that makes our presence significant. “Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum”, isn’t it.

  1. A successful attempt to invoke some fundamental assumptions that we have, in the course of evolution of understanding of our existence, administered as per our convenience. MIB, the Almighty, intrigue his audience to the boundless manifestations of time, something which has been asomatous for long.

  2. At times we do not need scientific insights to understand science. But time as scientists have quoted_ is the 4th dimension.... and the idea is well incorporated. Lovely attempt Barat

    1. Thank you.... It's strange how little fact we really know about the place where we have spend about 6 million years. We only have certain theories and reality might be way something else.
